Welcome to the second annual Green Ride, 230 miles from NYC to the Catskills and back, to benefit the Black Rock Forest Consortium, their acclaimed school-in-the-forest, and our newest beneficiary, Kingston, NY-based Sustainable Hudson Valley.

SHV works successfully with government, business and homeowners to tackle global warming by building greener, more livable communities and creative economies that focus on environmental solutions.

New to our Green Ride? Riders called the inaugural 2007 event "meaningful and satisfying" and "an unforgettable experience." We stayed indoors at the fabulous Black Rock Forest Lodge, enjoyed great meals, nighttime entertainment, and then rode the backroads to the edge of the Catskills and through the stunning 'Gunks.

Our ride is limited to 100 cyclists who each raise a minimum of $1,800, and is fully supported by an expert bike and medical team, experience road crew and the best chefs and freshest food in the Hudson Valley.

"I was continually impressed with how every detail was covered, every moment, from beginning to end... You made the mental challenge of the trip dissolve."

Our three day Columbus Day weekend tour may be the toughest 230 miles you'll ever ride. We've got hills, distance and autumn weather that can range from a glorious 72 degrees beneath a crystal blue sky to rain or blazing heat. But everyone who trains hard and practices on hills will find they are up to the extraordinary challenge.

The second annual ride will begin at The Cloisters, overlooking the banks of the Hudson River in Manhattan, and will take you up to the Catskills and back. You'll stay at the Black Rock Forest Lodge, a masterpiece of state-of-the-art green construction featuring geothermal heating, solar lighting, and self-composting toilets, and you'll be supported by a fleet of hybrid vehicles. Return to Manhattan at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, where you'll be welcomed with cheers and banners by the children who participate in the school-in-the-forest program.

You may choose to raise money for your favorite participating organization by joining their team or sign up as an individual riders and your donations will be distributed between our beneficiaries.

Black Rock

The Green Ride, the School-in-the-Forest, and the hundreds of children who are learning to understand and protect our fragile planet through the earth science program at Black Rock Forest thank the wonderful people at BlackRock, Inc. for their generous support.

"My active involvement as a board member of Sustainable Hudson Valley stems from my passion for encouraging business to be a positive force for social change. By partnering with the business community, government and other non-profits SHV is leading the way to a vibrant local economy and a healthy regional environment. The Green Ride is perfect for me because it combines my passion for riding my bike with my involvement with SHV. Exercising my right to be environmental, perfect!"
Ajax Greene, Sustainable Hudson Valley

"Black Rock Forest has captivated me for 15 years. Programs of the Consortium make the world a better place by increasing environmental understanding at all levels from young students on their first forays into nature to brilliant scientists asking detailed questions about how the world works. The Green Ride is a great way to raise awareness and support for Black Rock's increasingly important mission."
Bill Schuster, Black Rock Forest Consortium
